What is the AVOW - IC?

AVOW is an acronym for Advocating the Vocation of Women. AVOW-IC was founded by local CNY women who were inspired by the teachings of John Paul II on the dignity of women to bring this new understanding of womanhood to women like themselves: professional women, wives and mothers.

What is AVOW-IC’s mission?

AVOW-IC’s mission is to facilitate each woman’s recognition of her dignity and acceptance of her unique feminine role for her own personal happiness and fulfillment enabling her to participate in the building of a moral and just world.

Who is AVOW-IC designed for?

AVOW-IC is open to all women, Catholic and non-Catholic, to be inspired by the depth and authenticity of the Church’s teaching on the human person, especially women.

How does AVOW-IC share this message?

AVOW-IC sponsors a Women’s Breakfast Series featuring experienced women speaking on contemporary topics from the perspective of John Paul II’s writings on the dignity of women and the theology of the human person. The first Breakfast for Women was attended by 240 women.

AVOW-IC recognizes the need for small group studies. Hearing the request of over 50% of the women attending the Breakfast Series, AVOW-IC provides course materials to small groups of women who seek a deeper understanding of their dignity and vocation as women. Sharing their own experiences and their faith, they discover the inspiring truth of authentic feminism.

What course materials does AVOW-IC use?

AVOW-IC will offer a variety of study materials that are suitable to small groups study. The first study series selected was produced by Endow, an acronym for Educating on the Nature and Dignity of Women. These courses “based on Sacred Scriptures, the Catechism of the Catholic Church and the writings of well respected Catholic thinkers” are perfect for small groups to learn more about the dignity of each woman and her role within the Church and society. AVOW’s program of studies will expand as the number of volunteer facilitators increase and the materials become available.
